First, I have been a long-time watcher of The O'Reilly Factor. At least 4 and sometimes 5 times a week. Will probably still watch one or two times a week, when time allows. Particulary since Dennis Miller now does his thing on Wednesdays.
What success has done to Bill O'Reilly is make him so much less interesting. And, so much more full of himself. The days of him bringing us cutting edge commentary and the "no spine zone" seem to be over.
It's the smugness, really. Oh, and the showmanship, the self-deprecation, the constant "but they won't come in to the no-spin zone", calling us "the folks", expecting us to believe that he is just an average working stiff or just one of "the folks" and on and on.... The most startling change has been his recent fondness for the more risque. Do we really need Bill O'Reilly to show us videos of half-naked women or to give any air time to the latest "E" news?
Now, I want to protect kids, too. I have a few of my own. But I am beginning to feel that he has overloaded that bandwagon. On the Oprah Show? Did anyone see that performance? I thought he was going to have some kind of a breakdown. Even being on Oprah should raise a flag, don't you think?
Bill has been in the media for years and years. To get the gig on Fox News, he created a new him. His subsequent success allows him to drift back into his real self....a journalist that wants fame and fortune. I would never criticize anyone for wanting to get ahead and surely don't hold it against Bill. Just stop trying to convince everybody you are someone you are not. Bill, you are not one of "the folks"!
