Finally, Some Sense!

Listening to one of the talk shows today, I heard a caller refer to himself as an American-Mexican.  My first thought was "how weird".  But then, as the conversation continued, the caller made clear his point in using that term.  We are American's first....where we or our ancestor's came from is secondary.  How novel (he says with a grin).  Why is it that so many on the left and the media, in particular, promote the use of "XXXXX-American" which divides us?

I read another blog today that was about what would you rather be, polite or politically-correct.  It pointed out that the latter forces us to divide ourselves into groups.  I agree with that premise.  Let me ask you this question.....if you are white and your best friend is black and you had to fill out a questionnaire about your best friend, how would you answer the question on where your friend was from?  If he/she were born in the USA, would you say America?  Or, would you say Africa?  Obviously, you would say America.

I have several friends that are "black".  I have asked them, in the privacy of their own home, what term they use when talking about those that are "black".  All of them had the same answer but to quote one...."it sure isn't African-American".  I get a kick out of NBA Analysts like Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller using the "African-American" phrase when they would probably never say those words off the television screen.  So, here is the real question....who is is trying to divide us?  And, when you find them, tell them to stop!

Thanks to the caller I heard today and I agree.   We should all be Americans first!
